Certified copies of birth, death, and marriage records may be requested and purchased in person, by mail, or online. Beginning October 2, 2023, there is now an easier way to order your Vital records. Our new platform Vital Director allows customers to order and pay for Vital records online, without having to step foot in our office and wait in line.

You can request and pay for your certified copies online by clicking Vital Director!!

(Our office only holds the Vital Statistic records for Cabell County only.)

Maintaining the births, deaths, and marriage records of Cabell County residents is another responsibility of our office.  The original birth and death records are maintained by the State Vital Statistic’s Office, however, copies are distributed to each county clerk to be placed on record within the county offices in order to provide better access to the public.

Although all the indexes for these records are open to the public and can be used for research purposes, West Virginia laws only allow certain family members to obtain an actual certificate of these records, if they are 18 years of age or older.  The list of family members, as outlined under West Virginia law, can be found by clicking pdf here (22 KB)  or using the link on this page.  Once a record reaches a certain age a certificate can be obtained by anyone who makes a request.
